Moved to Wordpress

Well, I should have taken the advice from those of you who have been at this for a while. This blog has been moved to Wordpress. I was able to import all of the posts and your comments so we can just pick up where we left off.

To all of my new friends, please add http://twoapples1.wordpress.com/ to your list of blogs to follow so we can continue our challenge together.

You are appreciated and help me to want to post each day because I know someone is going to look at the photo. It would be sad if we all posted but no one ever saw the neat work you all produce. Thank you for sharing with me. See you at the new address.

Flight

The Charleston Air Force Base was near our hotel. We enjoyed seeing these C-17 Globemaster III planes. When you realize that their empty weight alone is 141 tons (128,100 kg) and max. takeoff weight is 282 tons (265,350 kg), it is amazing that they have the ability to fly.

This is a combination of two pictures. The background when I “captured” the plane was a boring blue with not a cloud in the sky. So I paired it with a pic I took this year of some clouds.

Fruit

This fountain is in the shape of a pineapple.  It almost looks good enough to eat.  It is one of the landmarks in Charleston, South Carolina in Waterfront Park.

Multicolored

Peacocks are colorful creatures. The purples, blues, oranges, and greens are gorgeous.

Frilly

The peacock is one of the most fascinating animals to me. His headdress and feathers never cease to catch my eye. I finally took the opportunity to photograph one last month. No doubt you would agree he is one frilly bird.

Remembrance

This grave marker was in Charleston, South Carolina.  All of the words had been washed away after years of exposure to the elements.  It got me thinking that what is on our tombstone does not matter in the end.  But how we live our life makes all of the difference.  How are we treating people in our life each day? What are we doing that will make a difference? We should live each day like it is our last and endeavor to do something meaningful with it.

For some reason, I do like walking through cemeteries. There are always neat things to discover there.

Bloom

To my knowledge this is a type of Tiger Lily. The orange and yellow go together nicely.

Wet

We have had one hot summer week.  Tonight we finally received some much needed rain to cool things down.  One thing I really enjoy is a good heavy rain.  I was able to take this shot before the real rain started. Glad I didn’t have to go out in it tonight because then I would have gotten wet.

Contemporary

The theme for tonight is contemporary.  Graffiti is often contemporary. Commonly associated with bad things—gangs, vandalism, and such.  However, in its proper place, it can be fascinating and even beautiful. This picture was taken on the way to a beach.  It seemed that it was allowed for people to put their mark on this cement slab.  It has become a place that people seem excited to see what it will be like the next time they visit.

Slow

This is far from an original idea. However, this is the first time I have noticed a turtle with algae on it. It makes this turtle look like he has moss growing on him. With that in mind he must be slower than most. It is good camouflage though.

In the second shot, the alligator did not move very fast either. It was a warm day so I do not blame them.

Earth-tones

The theme for today is Earth-tones.  This little bird was endearing as it tried to look for food. I am not sure what kind of bird it is. Feel free to comment if you would like to take a guess at it.

Below is the pic with the leaves in the foreground in-focus. Let me know which one you like better.

Silhouette

This was my first attempt at taking a silhouette.  The duck had a large glow that washed out some of his head.  I darkened his head as well as brought out more of the warm colors in the whole photograph.  There were a lot of ducks around this pool.  Usually the signs say “Don’t Feed the Ducks” but this sign said “Feed the Ducks.”  So my little friend was well fed.

Fast Food

Since I try to stay away from the regular fast food places, this is my "fast food" indulgence at one of the chain bakery-cafes.  This is also one of my comfort foods but I’ll save that theme for another day.

Front Doors

Two doors discovered in Charleston, South Carolina.  My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed taking in the sights from our trip.  There is so much history and lovely architecture.  I could stay there for a year and not discover it all.

365 Challenge

For the rest of this year I have joined a photo-a-day challenge.  My goal is to post a photo each day to my blog based on pre-chosen themes for the year.  A charming group of people are doing this with me and they take fabulous pictures.  My aim this year to is learn more about photography and photo editing through this process as well as consistently take out my camera and practice every day.  The theme list is located here. Your comments are appreciated.
